6 Tips for keeping Pitta cool this summer.

Summer is a Time to Savor the Outdoors

When the weather starts to warm up, it’s so nice to get outside (especially if you live in a place where the seasons are more apparent). It’s a time to gather together, to enjoy the abundance of nature in bloom, and to absorb the radiant energy of the sun. If we are just a little mindful of keeping Pitta dosha balanced during the summer months, we can feel great while taking in all that this beautiful season brings.

Possible signs of Pitta imbalance:

  • Irritated skin including redness or rashes.

  • Redness/dryness in the eyes.

  • Loose stools/diarrhea

  • Feelings of irritation, frustration, impatience, or intolerance.

  • A feeling of excess heat in the body.

  • Excessive thirst.

When we engage in practices that have inherently calming and cooling qualities, we can balance the fire of Pitta. These may include eating foods with cooling qualities, spending time in the water on hot days, allowing time for meditation or quiet reflection, and choosing to wear loose, natural-fiber clothing. These may seem like simple suggestions, but just being aware to bring in the appropriate elements throughout our days can have a significant impact in the way we feel and how we experience life.
